New Arrivals

Deirdre

Deirdre

Deirdre arrived at the Lockwood Donkey Centre 14th July 2009.

She is about 30 years old and was rescued from Portugal last year by a kind lady who lived over there but was moving back to the UK.

This lady took pity on Deirdre when she saw her struggling up and down steep hills pulling a large cart with 6 passengers.

She stayed with her rescuer for a year but after she lost her field companions she became quite lonely so we took her in to enjoy her much deserved retirement.

Deirdre is larger than our other donkeys and very sweet natured. Despite her earlier ordeals she loves to be around people and is especially fond of trying to eat their clothing.

Chutney

Chutney

Chutney came in to us on 13th July 2009. He is about 18months old and was still a stallion, although he has now been gelded.

He had a rough start to life when someone slashed his neck as a baby because they didn’t like the sound of his braying.

He was rescued and rehomed with a new owner but was still too noisy for his urban neighbourhood.

We are used to loud braying at here at Lockwood and, being surrounded by fields, he can bray to his hearts content.
